Globally recognized Swedish style brand H&M confronted this issue with one of its kids's wear ads in 2018. A Black baby carrying a hoodie with the slogan "coolest monkey within the jungle" was featured within the ad. This instantly led to controversy, as "monkey" is usually used as slur towards Black folks, and caused many customers to boycott the brand. Many people, including celebrities, posted on social media about their resentments towards H&M and refusal to work with and buy its products. H&M issued a statement saying "we apologise to anyone this may have offended", though this too obtained some criticism for showing insincere.
